LED Digital Scorebard for Westlake Boys High School

When Westlake Boys High school Principal Craig Monaghan first looked at the possibility of installing a large electronic scoreboard for sport at the school he was unsure what the overall cost would be. His initial investigations – through conventional channels – indicated that it would be expensive. That was until he talked to the team at Benefitz.

LED Digital Scoreboard“When we first took up the challenge to investigate how we could produce an affordable scoreboard for Westlake Boys they were around $20,000 to $25,000 away from what they wanted to spend,” explains Benefitz Managing Director Aidan Bennett. “Craig had initially considered that the project was not something that we could, or would, do. But we love a challenge so we went to work to provide the solution. And what a thrill it was to come up with the goods.”

The Benefitz team had no problem with designing, building and installing the substantial structure. The tough part was coming up with the LED technology to drive the scoreboard.

“We googled and googled and eventually found the solution right here in Auckland,” adds Aidan Bennett. “The LED panels were manufactured off-shore but the paging-based system to drive them was developed locally. We worked closely with Craig and his team at Westlake Boys to design the simple software for the different scoring requirements of rugby, cricket and soccer.”

The scoreboard was installed on the main playing field opposite the Westlake Boys sports pavilion. It can be operated from the pavilion which is some way away from the actual scoreboard.

The scoreboard features a combination of computer cut vinyl and printed vinyl. A perspex protective panel has also been added over the four LED screens to ensure balls do not damage the scoreboard.

And another thing… As well as coming up with the affordable price for the scoreboard, Benefitz also helped the equation by being one of the four sponsors advertising on the scoreboard.
